The Bob Bernard Open Individual Tournament is named in honor of Bob Bernard, who officiated as weighmaster for this tournament for many years.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club from 1983 through 1991.  He was Vice President in 1985 and President in 1986 and 1987.

 

The Bob Bernard Open Individual Tournament has been held every November on Saturday following the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament.  Individuals may register for this tournament at the club house starting on Wednesday prior to the tournament thru Saturday morning at 9 AM–that is, during the Invitation Surf Fishing Tournament. 

 

Since the Bob Bernard Open Individual Tournament registration is held in conjunction with the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament, you are more than welcome to attend the events for the Invitational Tournament (i.e. Open House, Tackle Show, and the Brag Night).

This Bob Bernard Open Individual Tournament is open to all, young and old alike–competition classes are Adults, Juniors, and youths.  Registration fees are $10.00 for adults and FREE for youth, juniors and judges.

Awards and trophies are given for the largest fish caught in each age class and for the largest overall fish.  Eligible species include

• Black Drum

• Bluefish

• Blow Toad

• Cobia

• Croaker

• Flounder

• Gray Trout

• King Mackerel

• Lingcod

• Little Tunny

• Pompano

• Red Drum

• Sea Mullet

• Speckled Sea Trout

• Striped Bass

• Tarpon
